Not that it's that violent, but like any big city, tourists can be easy pickings for people with bad intentions and suave speech, especially if they go to know sketchier parts. Also, don't be alarmed by how much nari gel people use. Fashion trends come and go, so if you have the money, why not participate as well? It might be the ticket to get into bed, and the pockets, of a socialite. The "All the Way Festival" takes the cake among the many festivals. Seeing the adventurer recognition festival is fun and all, but the name "All the Way" implies how grandiose it is. A badge is required to access the Black Castle and the innermost maze of Forway's cityscape. It's all for security and trading purposes since that's where the balls and contracts flow the most. Also, if someone asks you if you want to go to the End Lake—just don't. Trust me. Just make them think they have the upper hand, then attack them with a surprise counterattack at the last second to make them bleed out. Some have successfully baited them into a trap as well, but that ain’t as easy when they have a Sorefaries or another companion watching their surroundings. The entire yellow chunk is Sunna, equivalent to a timehunk, or about three hours. The Vraki writing within it breaks down the timehunk into half timehunks called Sunnalow and Sunnahigh. Going clockwise from the start (6 o’clock), you would read out the time as follows: Sunnalow, Sunnahigh, Sunnilow, Sunnihigh, Sunnolow, Sunnohigh, Sunnulow, Sunnuhigh. Now it begs the question: How did such stupendously amazing creatures that can supposedly bend soul energy to their will end up being chased away from their own home by mere humans? The answer for that is simple: don’t fucking underestimate others, especially when you’re stepping on their head, making them blood cattle, and experimenting away things that today few people would willingly subject themselves to. By the way, if you're the type who picks up fights when you get slouched, then you should avoid alcohol, as it's easier for a White Roundie to bring you a gold nugget than a Darfaries to say no to a fight. Wozefaries can dampen their fall from up to ten-story buildings, while Sorefaries can control their attitude at will. When attempting to control their flight or dampen their fall, a white flame appears on their Darfaries’ veins. This flame becomes black as its strength changes, constantly adapting to the user's desire to balance or propel themselves through the air. The sensation is close to a jetpack as they use their arms and upper back to control it while their feet dangle freely. It requires training and emphasis on building core and neck muscles to maintain control. They are peaceful, single-gendered creatures that appear to live thousands of years. Their only sustenance is the soul energy from their surroundings. Historians are always on the prowl to find one, but so do poachers. From what scientists have pieced together from what was left of the Buhraies civilization, humans were either created or somehow manipulated from within the soul as an evolution from Bruntos—a monkey specimen that is also foreign to the land. The genuine reasons for Bunhraies doing all of this are still debated today, from playthings to blood cattle or pure research to ground troops for attacking Lishies—or maybe them all since Buhraies didn't share a collective mindset. Either way, humans grew uncontrollable despite their harsh situation. Eventually, they threw off the balance of life of the ancient species and nearly wiped everything off the map, almost itself in the process as well, given all the humans killing each other after Ganyrami fell. Nobody knows exactly, but either way, they didn’t seem to care either, as their viciously tribalistic manners more than made up for it. You could cut off one of their arm and a leg, and they wouldn’t flinch as they tried to bash your head in, sodomize your corpse until you looked like swiss cheese, then skewer it to roast it nicely over a warm fire for extra crispiness—because you can’t let good meat go to waste! Another fair comparison would be like having a five-year-old kid as your companion, except they will never grow up and become more finicky instead as they often grow senile in their thirties. Also, for some unknown reason, their sweat smells flowery, like roses and lilac. They seem more flexible and independent overall—although this is likely led more due to environmental factors than genes as all Wozefaries (and Sorefaries) born in Gandew are thrown out of the Goodbye The most common currency is Pearls, which denotes the currency's minimum value. For reference, on an average working day, a gatherer of Gyut (a berry akin to Acerola) would earn one pearl per kg of berries picked (around thirty minutes to one hour of labor, depending on their efficiency.) Assuming a newbie gatherer worked for twelve hours, they would likely pay five pearls for a simple but hearty dinner with a mug of cheap beer, then another five for renting a humble hostel bed, with two pearls left over to save for tomorrow. Usually, one would use pearls for food or standard simple services like wagon rides for relatively short distances. If you gather fifty Pearls, then you can trade it for a single Amethyst. Some books can be as low as a single amethyst if the janky ass printing presses back at Forway work well, but most people would use their amethyst to buy household items like fost lamps or live animals like a tamed Winga or pay their rent. Some clothing can be found for a few amethysts, but don’t expect them to be a pussy (or dick) magnet. You could skip the flatteries and just go to a brothel after drinking a few beers instead of not paying much attention to what you’re stuffing or being stuffed by. If you want to use your balls on something else instead, buy some nari gels, nari stones, or better lodging! And if you somehow saved ten amethysts, then you can trade for a single aquamarine. Adrian, one of the courtroom scientists that overthrew all rulers at the end of The Greed Period, saw the treaty they were establishing as an opportunity to standardize all measurements based on using the most accurate one in existence—which happened to be the Tolerideme Kingdom, coincidentally where he was from. Gandew, of course, still uses their own to this day alongside the Vraki measurements. It’s possible to live without one; many do, but if you want to make any use of the plethora of the services provided by Forway and its embassies, sometimes of a given kingdom you participate in, then you don’t have a choice but to cough up some balls and pay for one. Also, don’t try to get a second badge with a different name unless you’re able to fake your very own soul. Forway has an extensive system in place to ensure you can only register your soul as a citizen once. The badge is normally made out of soul wood, hence its greenish color. The corners are decorated with four small peals unless you are an adventurer. Amethyst, Aquamarine, and Sapphire adventurers will have the corner balls of their badges matched accordingly. On the front of your badge, your name, city, and guild are displayed. That is, if you participate in a guild, but if you’re one of those types that like to be in everything to fulfill the void in your chest, then often the biggest one is chosen to be displayed—you can recraft your badge to display another guild too. Below it is a thermometer-like apparatus that measures how much Soul Energy you have. A bioluminescence only appears to the badge owner whose blood was used during the creation process. On the back, carved wood shows the Forway logo in black and white. If it still smells like burned wood, then you know for sure that the badge was created recently. Black wood Nari badges are special badges given to kingdom and city officials. If you want to use the building like any other badge-holder citizen of the kingdoms, then they will welcome you with wide open arms and a kiss! Maybe not a kiss, but you get the point. And don’t bother using your slivery tongue to talk your way out if you get caught fucking with them, as the supremacy of the Prosperity Treaty protects the embassies and the guards—even if they went as far as pulling your intestines out, wrapping your feet with it, then throwing you from the open fifth floor for an exclusive bungee jumping experience. They are so strict with it that it doesn't matter if you're a Sanbi guard that found themselves in the wrong place. Your king or queen won't be able to move a finger despite the Forway embassy being inside the Sanbi Kingdom. You will be Sanbi shit out of luck. They have the utmost authority if the embassy is in a city managed by Forway. Otherwise, the embassy grounds are their utmost authority, with the kingdom the embassy is located in belonging to whoever owns it. They have been essential in maintaining stability and an overall sense of peace and prosperity ever since the Prosperity Treaty was created. With that stated, you will only see Aquamarine or Sapphire Forway captains in those positions, as Forway officials must trust their own future to them. Some become loved, some become feared, and sometimes both, depending on who you ask, but either way, they all work towards that one goal. Now, why would someone of such stature be dressed like a guard, with only a fancy cap to differentiate them? It's simple, really! Your info will be posted on the general board and the weekly Forway News printout. Whoever wants to read it or ask a guard for info will have an opportunity to see whatever you posted. Sometimes Pearl Adventurers will check this board, but don’t count on it. Type 2: Local Warning Missing People, personal protection, etc. Usually, all quests are classified as Local warnings. The usual “Pay to Win,” or rather, “Pay To Be Heard.” Your thing will be posted on the Quest board, which is where Adventurers are far more keen to check out. The captain will also announce all open quests/news of this level on every Monnalow. Some companies/traders advertise their wares at this level as well. Type 3: Kingdom Alert Has The Buhraies castle decided to spill a bunch of undead garbage once again? Has a Kingdom official been taken hostage? Do you have a lot of money and want something done quickly, or do you want everyone to know about it? Then this is what happens when you pay out of the ass for news. Alongside the quest board and shouting at Monnalow, the captain will immediately send a shoutout across the kingdom's main cities/villages to gather all available adventurers to assist with your request (if necessary) or just shout out the news as-is. Type 4: Emergency For when shits the fan, such as an external invasion or an army of Hifuna monsters, somehow decide to march down towards Forway. This has never happened since Forway was established, so it’s just a news type in theory. Some higher-ups in Forway even pushed for the removal of it since it costs resources, keeping every embassy at the ready for an emergency level of alert (which most likely aren’t.) Trying to alter it in any shape or form is possible; Buhraies have done so, but perhaps it was one of the reasons, or the reason for now being considered an ancient species, presumably extinct, as some tales of seeing one still are told in random conversations amongst adventurers in campfires. Some still try to break research into these strange grounds, but most scientists have concluded that the risks outweigh the rewards of messing with the soul. Some now consider it taboo, especially given the seemingly random outcomes of trying to tap into the Buhraies interface. Meanwhile, soul energy, also referred to as soul fire in older texts, is widely considered to be the contents of the soul, where our mind and memories are located. This outstanding fact was discovered by scientists who compared the average soul death age between siblings, where one spent their life in relative safety while the other lived dangerously and somehow survived long enough to retire. From the group, a median age of five years was removed. However, looking at individual data points, it is entirely random as it varies from person to person, with the conclusion that, once again, the critical factors were how much soul energy and, presumably, life experiences they had versus the number of lost strands they suffered. Perhaps it is for that exact reason that older people pass away or young ones suffer from SID, with resurrection attempts failing despite applying healing magic to their bodies. Decrypted Buhraies research has shown that even they could not rebind soul and body once it disconnected. For example, adventurers who had their desecrated corpses found and revived within weeks of their death showed some loss of brain cognition, often involving their memories. The longer it took to recover the adventurer, the more likely they would not awaken after being revived, or if they had awoken, they would likely be a sliver of their former selves—sometimes a tabula rasa or behave like a crying newborn. Soul strength also follows a Bell Curve profile, with early adulthood having the most resilience, making revival virtually guaranteed. The same cannot be said for infants and the elderly. What has been shown is that the longer you remain in a different state, the more likely your mental state will shift to it, with desires and eventually personality changing as well—perhaps hormones have something to do with it. You could say he stole Right, Up, Down, Left, & Rolls from other scientists claiming it, but he was the one who created a uniformity that no other scientists had in mind, so he took home all the glory. Such a feat did claim a lot of street creds among scientists but also a lot of enemies. Wozefaries can dampen their fall from up to ten-story buildings, while Sorefaries can control their attitude at will, and even carry some weight with them. The weight depends on the Sorefaries’ strength, dexterity, and soul energy capacity. When attempting to control their flight or dampen their fall, a white flame appears on their Darfaries’ veins. This flame becomes black as its strength changes, constantly adapting to the user's desire to balance or propel themselves through the air. The sensation is close to a jetpack as they use their arms and upper back to control it while their feet dangle freely. Most humans living in the new millennium of 1000 A.G. can be considered a new subspecies of intermixing Darfaries and Wozefaries with Naked Bruntos—a.k.a humans according to Darfaries. Interbreed humans can use this interface despite all lacking the same protruding nerves. Some show characteristics of the distinct Darfaries’ floppy ears and more prominent tusks, but only in sporadic cases. Environmental changes, especially creation, destruction, and manipulation of elemental properties such as water, fire, terrain, and gravity, are commonly performed through this interface. Sure, they can be made to explode violently when in direct contact with water, which makes them great for traps or just chucking at your enemy while someone else lungs a water ball, but most nari bombs being sold are tamed so that they only emit a lot of smoke instead. Still, don’t drop it in a lake, as there’s only so much safety against dumb people a manufacturer can do—use Create Mist instead, you dumbhead! Well, unless you’re trying to see how cool the explosion looks because it’s a sight to behold. Actually, here’s a trick! Wrap it in paper so that the explosion is delayed a bit! That way, the water's top will explode out much more intensely! You didn’t hear it from me though. Adventurers had a variety of colors they used, sometimes varying per region or per guild too. It created a lot of confusion to the point Forway intervened and officialized these colors: Red: Help. Cyan: Conquered/Complete. Green: Safe/Go ahead. Yellow: Retreat. These colors are used by everyday folks too, and even more so by adventures. However, Bandits are people too, so they use it to get you into a trap instead. Be wary if you see it randomly, but remember as an adventurer you’re representing Forway! You should still check it, though as it could be a test for your promotion. You never know! If anything, you can kill a few miscreants and loot them instead—to surrender it all to Forway for investigations. Yes! When filled, it gives off a bluish hue that looks relatively liquid, as if it were trapped inside the stone. When used, it changes its looks to a diamond-like appearance, showing a hollow look. In its most available and ready-to-use form, it is a stone encased by green wood that can protect it from leakage or unplanned discharge. Forway banned their usage due to the fatalities and corruption of one’s character that often occurs. Legally speaking, the lack of pulse also implies a certain death status. Their souls haven’t died yet, so they can’t be marked as soul dead and their rights as citizens removed. If you cause trouble or run your mouth, but don't want to visit the pits to square things away, then you can go instead on a free, one-way ride on the "Goodbye Cliff"—a colossal ballista that will launch you alongside Wozefaries and Sorefaries babies into the desert. It's a wild ride, but some adrenaline junkies prefer that over going through the inner tunnels to get out of the only down to one of the main doors because it is a long ride. By the way, make sure to stop by the Grand Hall near the top of the mountain! You will love the sights! It might even make you want to move and live there, but you better be a Darfaries born in Gandew if you want to say that out loud. Talking about being a Darfaries born, depending on when you visit, you might see a group of people reunited in a local community center arguing loudly while someone screams at everyone while holding a bloodied book… Don’t worry! That’s just the Blood Book ceremony. This ceremony starts with the head of the family or village opening the book and stating the expectations and promises of a given signee from last time, then the signee gives an update on what they succeeded, what they failed, and what the new expectations will be. During this time, any other participant may promise something to the signee being reviewed, or outright challenge them to a duel to, for instance, bash some sense into their head or for failing to do something promised, or even resolve any bad blood between participants. Once the signee is fully reviewed, they sign in blood to make them responsible for complying with what they stated. Also, don’t expect to strike up many conversations with them when they have their helmet on; they are generally more reserved than other guards, but the issue is that their helmet locks their large tusks in place, preventing them from opening their mouths. The cities in the middle are known as the Soil Group, and they are more skewed towards farming and fishing. The outer ones are in the Blood group and rely more on hunting. This separation did not start right from the beginning; rather, it evolved naturally, and over time, they just started using those names without even realizing it. Getting anywhere without an egua is tricky unless you love walking—and by that, I mean you might have to walk 20,000 steps a day to do all of your errands as everything is entirely horizontal-like as if people were mortally afraid of heights. Watching the sunset fall over a gyut or greenbread farms commonly found in the Soil group cities is a sight to watch. Just watch out for Trunk People! Even though they may be small and cute as they innocently light up the entire city, if enough of them turn on you, you could be burned down to a crisp. Falling greenbreads are fatal for their astounding human weight and size, so look up! Contrary to all other kingdoms, residents vote on their city leader, and the leaders vote on the representative of Freeish. Have a better life. Some can become indebted to Forway itself, but by that point, you're already an Aquamarine or Sapphire, and debts are part of life. Talking about the adventurers' tiers, Forway has a firm structure of recognition, with recognitions and promotions being held on the annual Adventurer feast every Paulin 100th: Tier I - Pearl are the newcomers, prohibited from most jobs due to their lack of experience. Plus, Forway is not as willing to trust them either, so they are given menial tasks to improve their skills and specifically increase their soul energy, such as pest control or certain fauna hunting or flora gathering within or around cities, assisting civil construction, maintaining lighthouses, and area surveillance. In emergencies, they are relied upon as message spreaders to free up Forway guards and other higher-ranking adventurers to deal with the crisis itself. Tier II - Amethyst are given jobs similar to Pearls but tend to be out in the wild instead, like hunting Bagarisas. Plus, they are often used for Bounties, Bandit traps, and even some beast hunting or cargo protection. It's common to see Amethysts paired with Aquamarines since it's quite symbiotic—the Amethyst adventurer gains experience and more balls by participating in more dangerous quests while the Aquamarine saves balls as they get a higher cut of the quest. Tier III - Aquamarines are the ones who somehow survived this challenging profession long enough to have the opportunity to partake in even more dangerous quests, including participating in rescue parties for presumed dead adventurers to revive and stick them with an even more outstanding debt as revival ain't free! Some luck out with well-paid personal security jobs that mainly involve posturing around looking tough, while others are so addicted to the thrill of the fight they prefer to take bandit camps exterminations alongside Forway guards. Tier IV - Sapphires genuinely are the perfect soldiers. Their experiences alone would fill many books, so much so that it's not uncommon to have some of them turn into advisors or straight-up Forway officials when they get older. Plus, Forway itself trusts them with fully paid admission to Adventurer School if they haven't done so already, plus access to secret quests and official matters that most of their Forway guards never dreamed of being part of. It's like the old saying goes: If you see a Sapphire passing by while leading an adventurer party, then you can rest safe that they will put an end to whatever is troubling you.
